Seldom does the IRS do something that makes people happy. Really, most people cringe at the thought of the infamous agency. Recently however, they did something that should have pregnant women and nursing moms rejoicing. I am referring to IRS Announcement 2011-14.
This change to the IRS code allows health insurance policyholders to use their flexible spending account funds to pay for breast pumps and supplies. In addition, breast pumps and supplies also fall into the category of medical expenses that can be deducted if a taxpayer’s medical expenses exceed the 7.5% of their adjusted gross income.
